Building Inspections

Inspections are required for the items listed below. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for all inspections. Please contact the building inspector to schedule an inspection or for further information.
 
Building permit forms are under City Documents.

Footings

To be completed after trenches or post holes are excavated, forms are erected, and reinforcing steel is in place. This inspection must be made prior to any concrete being poured.

Foundation

Poured wall inspection to be completed after all forms and reinforcing steel is in place, prior to any concrete being poured.

Foundation Damp-Proofing

To be completed after all foundation walls are damp-proofed and insulated and exterior drain tile is installed.

Plumbing Rough-In: Underground

Per Minnesota Plumbing Code. The plumbing contractor shall provide all test equipment and labor necessary to accomplish the air test. The inspection shall be made prior to any pipes being covered up or concealed or concrete floor being poured.

Heating & Mechanical

Shall be done when all duct work and piping is installed. This inspection can be done at the time of the framing inspection.

Gas Line Air Tests

Gas lines shall be tested @ 25psi of air for a minimum of 24 hours. Time of test & psi shall be marked at test site for inspector reference.

In-Floor Radiant Heat

Shall be done after all insulation and tubing are placed and the tubes are pressurized to 80 pounds of air for a minimum of 24 hours.

Framing

To be completed after the roof, all framing, wind wash protection, fire blocking, truss bracing, pipes, chimneys, and vents are installed. All windows and doors must be installed with the proper flashing and weather barrier seal. The truss specifications must be onsite during this inspection. The rough-in electrical inspection must be completed and approved by the State of Minnesota Electrical Inspector prior to framing inspection.

Basement Framing

To be completed after all framing, fire blocking, truss bracing, pipes, chimneys, and vents and mechanical is installed and before insulation.

Insulation

To be completed after all insulation, rim joist insulation, caulking, fire stopping, air chutes, and vapor barriers are installed. Prior to any of the work being covered up.

Fireplace

Unit shall be installed with the framing around and any required fire stopping in place, prior to covering up or concealing. A gas line air test to the unit shall be required.

Wallboard

After all wall board is installed and all fasteners are in place, prior to taping.

Final Plumbing

To be made after all fixtures are set and caulked and all water pipes are run. All labor and equipment to accomplish the final manometer test shall be supplied  by the plumbing contractor or homeowner.

Final Mechanical

To be made after all appliances, equipment, and gas lines are installed and hooked up.

Final Building

To be made after Electrical Final Inspection is approved, and all other mechanical and plumbing inspections have been completed and passed. Four inch high house numbers must be on the mailbox as well as on the house at the time of the final building inspection. Grade must slope away from the dwelling or building.
